It is important to believe in yourself.
Robert Collier, the famed copywriter and self-made millionaire, once said: “Believe that you cannot do a thing– and you can’t. Know that you can do it– and you will.” When I say that it is important to believe in yourself, I am thinking along the lines of what Robert Collier was saying in that quote. If you have faith that you can accomplish what you want to accomplish, you will do so. If you cannot seem to do it, then there is lingering doubt in you that undermines the goal and it is lost from the start. Life goals are much the same way. Many people dream of being in better circumstances, but their dreams are lost to doubts. The first sign of adversity merely confirms that their doubts are legitimate and, from that point onward, any hope they once had of turning their dream into a reality is dashed against the rocks like a small dingy in rough seas. Peoples’ hopes and dreams are often dashed against the rocks. In those cases, they WANT their dreams to become realities, but they won’t let themselves have whatever it is they desire. They are drowned in a sea of doubt. You need to start believing in yourself. You need to tell yourself this: “I can do it!” Replace fear and doubt with “I can do it!” If you’ve always dreamed of becoming a successful business man (or woman), create a business card with your dream title. On the card’s back, print in large type font: “I can do it!” and stick that in your pocket. Several times a day, take that card out and read it. Perhaps it will say something like this: John Smith – Millionaire Copywriter – contact info… and on the reverse side, in bold font… “I CAN DO IT!” Read your card first thing every morning and again at night just before you go to bed. That sort of affirmation can plant itself in your subconscious mind and help you change from being a negative thinker to being a positive one. Your doubts will cease to exist and you will start to believe in yourself. BUT, you have to believe that this will work. You have to start believing that you CAN do it. Henry Ford said, “Whether you think you can or think you can’t, either way, you are right.” Like Robert Collier, Henry Ford believed that it was possible to create a V-8 engine, even when his own engineers said that it couldn’t be done. Ford insisted, even though his engineers could not figure it out. Ford’s belief that it could be done was steadfast. In the end, the team working on it did figure it out, and the rest, as they say, is history. Believe in yourself. Even if nobody else does. Just, believe in yourself. |
