Creature Comforts and Morale

Creature comforts go a long way in building morale.

In a warehouse environment that, tends to be cold in the winter and hot in the summer, having a climate regulated break-room is a good way to improve morale. Employees need some place to relax for a few minutes in comfort.

Having proper ventilation and heating boosts productivity because people work more efficiently when they are warm and comfortable. In many warehouse situations, temperature control is difficult, if not impossible. If the business is warehouse and production, then, placing the production as far away from the “dock” as possible will boost productivity because line workers and technicians will be warmer, work faster and more efficiently.

Restrooms should be clean, well lit, and fully supplied with toilet paper, paper towels, and soap. And toilet paper should be soft, not like sandpaper. It should also be the standard four-inch width. Why? Because it is a little gesture to show that you care about your employees. In regard to soap, antibacterial soap dries out peoples’ hands and causes them to crack and split, especially in winter. Regular liquid soap is cheaper and easier on the skin.

Make sure that restrooms are warm and everything is in perfect working order. All stalls should have a coat-hook and privacy doors.

Give employees these little creature comforts and they will feel appreciated. That builds loyalty to the company and increases esprit de corps.
