Happiness: What's Good for General Motors...

There used to be a philosophy that what’s good for General Motors is good for America.

Today, when job security seems to be ellusive, perhaps even evasive, a little of what’s good for America could go a long way. So what IS Good for America. That’s the key question.

What is good for America is a nation of people, happily employed and spending money, saving money, and a growing tax-base. What is good for America is a BELIEF in the “American Way” –where America is still viewed as heroic and willing to help other places in the world when we are called to do so.

What is good for America is a people without fear or uncertainty. What is good for America is a healthy, vibrant culture that is uniquely American and readily identifiable as such. We are who and what we are. We are made up of waves of past immigrants coming here to become Americans– to raise their kids to be Americans– to celebrate being Americans. Why? Because we were, at one time, thought to be the “land flowing with milk and honey”, a land of prosperity.

Americans used to be optimistic compared to the people of other countries. We were not mired in countless European wars. We had our share of problems and troubled times, but for most of our history, the nation was strong and prospered.

We can get through any difficulty and overcome any challenge by being positive, and envisioning a golden shore with waves of countless immigrants stepping off the boat and into the promised land– and believing that a renewal of that dream is possible and is already ours for the taking.

When businesses and individuals realize that what is good for America and its people should be a priority, then, uncertainty will vanish. A happy people is a productive people.
